What are the sanitation requirements for having pets in child care?

All animals must be considered to be in good health.  Pets such as cats and dogs should be routinely evaluated by a veterinarian and vaccinated according to the veterinarian’s recommendations or as required by local ordinance.  Birds of the parrot family must be tested for psittacosis.  Reptiles are prohibited in child care.  Other animals are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

NOTE:  the Section for Child Care Regulation also has safety requirements for animals in child care.
